World Hijab Day

Wednesday, February 1, 2017

World Hijab Day "Stand For Her Right to Cover" encourages women to foster global religious tolerance and understanding through Hijab awareness and information. Many Muslim women experience discrimination simply because they choose to wear the Hijab. This event strives to improve cultural competency by fostering understanding and knowledge about Muslim women, their right to wear a Hijab, and their freedom to practice their faith. On Wednesday, February 1, the Women's Center and Global Initiatives will host an information table in the Armstrong Student Center, 1-4 pm, with resources on the Muslim faith and traditions. There will be an opportunity for individuals to try on a Hijab to experience the traditon of head covering. At 6:30 pm in MacMillan Hall 212, there will be a panel discussion focused on the wearing of the Hijab and cultural traditions that exist within the Muslim faith. This event is free and open to the public.
