We can't wait to reconnect!

Why Back to the Future?

The world has spent almost three years grappling with a collective obsession to “get back to normal.” But… what is normal?

Let’s be honest, even if we once knew the answer, the pandemic changed it, just as it changed our students and continues to affect how we view our purpose and the greater role of education in society. So what does the Miami University Regionals of the future look like?

If the present is a gift, then the future is a promise we make to ourselves.

  • What do you want the future of MUR to look like?
  • What do you want the future of education to look like?
  • How do we increase access, ensure equity, and address retention as an institution?
    • As departments?
    • As individuals?

⇒ The decisions we make now will determine the future. Let’s make them together.

Recharge 2023 returns to form in some ways:

We’ll be back on campus after last year’s virtual conference, there will be food and drink once more, and we’re bringing back the option to choose from different conference tracks based on role and interest. Recharge 2023 is also a chance for us to create something completely different. If last year was a chance to reconnect, this year is a chance to leverage those connections as we move forward with planning and purpose.

Metacognition, Mindset, and Motivation: The Keys to Future Success for All Students!

Students come to college with widely varying academic skills and motivation levels. Most students think that memorizing information just before examinations is tantamount to learning and spend considerably less time studying than is commensurate with their grade expectations. In this interactive session, participants will discuss why many students have few if any of the skills required to achieve student learning outcomes. Yancy McGuire, Ph.D., will present cognitive science research-based methods that can be used to facilitate conceptual, transferable learning. Additionally, she will present data that supports the efficacy of transforming students’ mindsets about learning and motivating them to use effective metacognitive strategies.
