All scholarship awardees must be registered in one of the following majors:

  • Chemical Engineering – Paper Science Minor
  • Engineering Management – Paper Science Minor
  • Mechanical Engineering – Paper Science Minor
  • Electrical Engineering – Paper Science Minor

All students must also be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours on the Oxford campus, be enrolled in courses that follow the paper science curriculum as outlined by the Chemical, Paper and Biomedical Engineering (CPB) Department, be a member of TAPPI (Technical Association of Pulp & Paper Industries), and attend Student TAPPI meetings throughout the academic year. Any new scholarship recipient must also attend a one- time introductory seminar on the paper industry.

First Year:

The Paper Science & Engineering Foundation (PSEF) will review admission information of entering first year students to determine scholarship eligibility. To be considered, students must indicate on their University application that they will major in one of the paper science related engineering majors (Mechanicals are not eligible until junior year). First semester entering students admitted to the CPB Department whose admission information predicts a high potential for academic success may be awarded a scholarship, providing the student satisfies all of the following requirements: enrollment in CEC101, membership in TAPPI and participation in the Student TAPPI chapter activities, and attendance at an introductory seminar on the paper industry. For a freshman to retain the scholarship for the second semester a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 must be earned the first semester and the student must be enrolled in CPB102.

Chemical Engineering/Engineering Management Upper Class:

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who meet the criteria listed in the “Requirements” section above and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher are eligible for PSEF scholarships.

Transfer Students:

Students transferring into one of the eligible paper related majors from other departments or colleges within Miami University who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher are eligible for PSEF scholarships. Students transferring to Miami from another institution: academic credits earned at institutions other than Miami University will not be considered in determining scholarship eligibility. Students will be eligible after completing their first semester at Miami, assuming a 3.00 GPA is achieved. In both cases, transfer students must fulfill the criteria listed in the “Requirements” section above.

Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering:

Five scholarships are available for Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering juniors and seniors who have committed to a Paper Science Minor and meet the PSEF criteria as stated above under “Requirements”. Scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 per semester, will be awarded to the top five ME or EE students based on cumulative GPA and class rank.
