Biography

Ms. Jessica Lawson, M.A., is a Visiting Instructor in the First-Year Integrated Core program teaching BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication. Ms. Lawson started at Miami University in 2019 teaching public speaking for the Media, Journalism, and Film Department. She joined the Farmer School of Business in 2020. Ms. Lawson’s teaching career began 22 years ago during her undergraduate degree when she secured a coveted teaching assistant role teaching interpersonal communication. Her love of the field continued into graduate school with another teaching assistantship. And since finishing her masters she has taught a wide variety of communication courses in colleges in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats including: interpersonal communication, public speaking, small-group communication, persuasion, dispute resolution, intercultural communication, mass communication, organizational communication, human communication, research methods, and health communication. Jessica is thrilled to take the lessons from all of these courses into a business communication context back to the roots of her undergraduate degree in Organizational Communication and Business Management. Jessica is passionate about helping college students to strengthen their communication skills to benefit them in personal and professional ways. When Jessica is not teaching she enjoys yoga, gardening, and playing with her cats.
