First-Generation College Celebration Day

From its very foundation, TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) has been a supporter for First-Generation college students. A First-Generation college student is an individual whose parents or legal guardians have not completed a bachelor's degree. It can be challenging to build a better life when you're the first in your family to go to college. In 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-Generation Student Success launched the inaugural First-Generation College Celebration. Miami Regionals are proud to join this initiative to celebrate our First-Gen students.

TRiO SSS and the Tutoring & Learning Centers want to recognize our First-Gen students, faculty, and staff on the Miami Regionals campuses. On November 8, 2018, we want all current students, staff, and faculty who are First-Gen students to stop by the Hamilton and Middletown TLC locations to pick up a "I Am First-Gen" button as a way of making First-Gen students visible and to celebrate them on our campuses.
