Internship and Job Search

  1. No single job search resource captures all the internships or jobs that are available to you.
  2. Many internships and jobs are never posted and are available only through networking, job shadowing and informational interviews.
  3. Utilize the internship /co-op search timetable checklist to support you through your individual search.

So, as you search through the resources listed on the following pages, don’t feel discouraged if you can’t find the opportunities you’re looking for in any one particular internship or job search resource.

Here are some Best Practices to consider when planning your Job & Internship Search:

  • Have a target list of employers. Conduct informational interviews, job shadow, and conduct research.
  • Network your way into organizations using LinkedIn, your alma mater and any other networking opportunity that come to mind
  • Understand your personal brand.
  • Volunteer. Even though everyone knows the expression "finding a job is itself a full-time job", that doesn't cut it with hiring managers. If you find an organization whose mission aligns with your personal values, volunteer with them. Obviously, your commitment should not be heavy enough to interfere with your commitment to your job search, but volunteering is a fantastic way to find a sense of purpose.
  • Create an elevator pitch that sounds like you.
  • Communicate your plans and details of your job search with the people you know. The more people who know you're looking, the more people that are empowered to help find connections or opportunities for you.
  • Stay POSITIVE! Even if your job search plans are not meeting up with your timeline expectations, don't allow self-doubt and negative attitudes to bring you down! Employers hire confident, upbeat & positive candidates.
