Hearing Process

The process is designed to be educational in nature, and although parts of the process may mirror the criminal court system, the student conduct hearing process is an administrative function of the University that has its own rules, definitions, and practices. Hearings are conducted in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct. The purpose of a hearing is to determine, from the weight and credibility of the statements and information presented and by a preponderance of evidence, if a student is responsible for violating the student conduct regulations.

The student conduct hearing process at Miami University seeks to give students who have been accused of violating the Code of Student Conduct, and who wish to challenge that accusation, an opportunity to present information in their defense. You may obtain detailed information about the hearing process by reading the Code of Student Conduct, by contacting a staff member in the office, or by reading the material on this site.
