MME department produces face shields amid COVID-19 pandemic
The frames are made on a plastic injection molding machine. A mold is cut from metal, and molten plastic is then injected into the mold and cooled until solid.

Dr. Lei Kerr loans machinery to local hospital
In March, the hospital began to reach out to the university, asking for any materials, like gloves, masks or lab coats, that could be donated. Following the outreach, Dr. Kerr and her colleagues began to think of ways they could help.

The patent, titled Nano/micro scale porous structured alloys using selective alloying process based on elemental powders, took approximately four years to complete. He began the process while he was earning his master's degree at The University of Texas System.
