Mental Health Incubator Returns

Thanks to generous support from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), Miami University is hosting a second mental health incubator fund to support programming on campus. The fund was created to inspire members of the Miami community to develop new initiatives that will enhance mental health support for students across all of Miami’s campuses.

“The ODHE grant allowed us to accomplish over 25 projects last year focused on mental health and care for our community,” said Steve Large, assistant vice president of student life for health and wellness. “The incubator fund beautifully represents the shared valuing and prioritization of student mental health at Miami as it reinforces the belief that student mental health is everyone’s responsibility, not one person or department.”

Applications to receive support from the fund are reviewed by a small committee of faculty, staff, and students from across all Miami campuses. Any faculty, staff member, or student (including student organizations) is invited and encouraged to request program support from the mental health incubator fund, provided the following considerations are met:

  • The initiative must benefit Miami students.
  • Proposed initiatives should advance an aspect of student mental health including, but not limited to: education/training, prevention, skill-building, innovative practices, stigma reduction, etc.
  • Funding proposals can range from $500 to $10,000.
  • Funds must be utilized by April 2025.
  • The initiative should not require ongoing funding; it's a one-time funding opportunity.
  • The fund will not support research, student staff hiring, travel for professional development, or offsetting institutional resources.
  • Applications with broader impact and larger student reach will be prioritized.

Inquiries about the application process or project eligibility can be directed to Ben Williams, assistant dean of students, at willi554@MiamiOH.edu
