Salary improvement pool for FY 2023
President Gregory Crawford announces that Miami expects the Board of Trustees to approve a 4% salary improvement pool for 2022-23
Dear Miamians,
I am pleased to announce that we expect the Board of Trustees to approve a 4% salary improvement pool for 2022-23. All Miami University faculty and unclassified staff hired before April 1, 2022, will be eligible for this merit-based pay increase if approved. The faculty and unclassified staff increases are to be allocated based on performance. Those employees who achieve "meets expectations" on their performance reviews will receive 3% increases. Deans and vice presidents will determine how the additional 1% pool is to be allocated to their respective faculty and staff based on meritorious performance. More information will be provided to divisional leaders and deans later this week.
Classified staff will receive an across-the-board increase of 4%. As you may be aware, Miami and AFSCME will engage in collective bargaining later this spring to negotiate their annual increase. No increase can be awarded to an AFSCME employee until their new contract agreement is in place.
As we enter the final stretch of the semester, I want to thank each of you for your hard work this academic year. More than two years ago, we left campus expecting to be away for a few weeks. I look back at March 2020 and think about how optimistic we were that COVID-19 would be a temporary blip on our timeline. Today, it is clear that it is something that will continue to impact us for years to come. Beyond the health ramifications of a worldwide pandemic, supply chains were disrupted and inflation has reached levels well beyond anything we have seen in recent decades. This salary pool reflects our understanding of the inflationary pressures on your personal budgets, as well as our recognition of the sacrifices everyone made throughout the pandemic.
The past two years have been challenging for all of us – personally and professionally. Agility, innovation, and grit have been essential as we have navigated the pandemic. Your hard work and commitment to our students have allowed us to weather the storm and position Miami for future success. Thank you for all you do for Miami and our students.
Love and Honor,
Gregory P. Crawford
