Phillip Arceneaux
Phillip Arceneaux is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication. His research investigates the art and science of organizational storytelling in political and government public relations. As a public policy specialist, his areas of interest include foreign policy, national security, and elections. Dr. Arceneaux’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Public Relations Review, Journal of Communication Management, Journalism Studies, Journal of Political Marketing, Journal of Public Affairs, Journal of Public Diplomacy, and Journal of Information Warfare. He has authored multiple book chapters, policy papers, and thought leadership articles, and hosts The Global Engagement Podcast.
In an administrative role, Dr. Arceneaux also serves as the Director of Miami’s Diplomacy Lab. This public-private partnership with the U.S. Department of State pairs faculty expertise and student experiential learning to “course-source” practical policy solutions to real-world threats faced by diplomats and foreign service officers at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world. He is also a faculty fellow with the Menard Family Center for Democracy.
As a communication practitioner, Dr. Arceneaux has consulted on public relations and marketing across the United States federal government, including the Department of State, Naval Academy, and Central Intelligence Agency. He has also served as a research consultant for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's Partnership for Countering Influence Operations as well as the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Project on Prosperity and Development.
In the classroom, Dr. Arceneaux has taught a wide range of courses including public relations principles, strategic communication planning and writing, new and social media, international and intercultural communication, political communication, advocacy and civic participation, research methods, and emerging media law and ethics. He enjoys working with students one-on-one and regularly takes on graduate and undergraduate students for independent studies, senior projects, theses, research hours, and other opportunities.
Dr. Arceneaux received his doctorate degree from the University of Florida, his master's from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and his bachelor's from Louisiana State University. He is an active member of the International Communication Association, International Studies Association, Public Diplomacy Council of America, Public Relations Society of America, and Political Public Relations Research Lab.
