Biography

Douglas Lindsay, trumpeter, has enjoyed a career of acclaimed variety and success. His performances have crossed into many styles including over 20 years as an orchestral musician. As a soloist, Douglas has performed with the National Symphony of The Dominican Republic, The City Hall Orchestra of Kharkov, Ukraine, The Wittenberg University Orchestra, The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. These appearances included works by Tomasi, Haydn, Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel Toreli, Shostakovich, and others.

As a Chamber Musician, Lindsay has performed with the Carillon Brass Quintet, the Queen City Brass, and is currently trumpeter with Concert Nova, a contemporary ensemble of mixed instrumentation devoted to multimedia performance. His chamber appearances have found him performing throughout the United States, including New York City, Colorado, Montana, and the Midwest. Internationally he has performed as a chamber musician in France, Eastern Europe, and the Caribbean.

Lindsay has been a frequent recitalist in cities such as New York, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland as well as Santo Domingo and Santiago, Dominican Republic. His CD titled French Recital Music for Trumpet has become a benchmark recording of many popular French recital works.

Lindsay is also sought after as a jazz and pops trumpeter, performing with the Winton Jazz Trio, Salsa Caliente, and as a soloist with the Cincinnati Pops.

Lindsay completed his Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin Wallace College, studying with James Darling and Mary Squire, and spent a year at Manhattan School of Music studying with William Vachianno. In 1985, he was appointed Principal Trumpet of Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de la Republica Dominicana. From 1987 to 1990, he was a member of the Dayton Philharmonic and in 1991 he spent a year with the Charlotte Symphony. Following his year in Charlotte, he became a member of the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras. He retired from the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras as an Associate Principal Trumpet and can be heard on over 50 recordings by the orchestras. He is also the Founder and Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Brass Institute.
