Biography
Erin J. Hoppe, PhD is passionate about enhancing well-being for the creative sector and its stakeholders with research, education, and action. Her pedagogy focuses on bridging theory and practice for arts leaders, with attention to creativity and accessibility. Her love of education began while leading professional development workshops to expand the spectrum of accessibility offerings in creative spaces. She has taught and mentored under/graduates at numerous higher education institutions and was recognized with an Outstanding GTA Award at The Ohio State University.
Erin has more than two decades of experience as an arts manager. Entry level roles at the National Endowment for the Arts, Smithsonian Institution, and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts honed skills in arts advocacy, research, and education. She spent 11+ years as the executive director of VSA Ohio, a statewide nonprofit arts and disability service organization, fostering inclusion and accessibility. She served long time roles as an Columbus Arts Marketing Association executive member, Ohio Citizens for the Arts board of directors representative, and VSA International affiliate network council member. She has presented at dozens of arts management/education professional conferences and received an Emerging Arts Leader award from Greater Columbus Arts Council.
Research interests lie in arts manager professional development, identity, and creativity, critical inquiry, and walking methodologies. She has co-published research about the effects of covid on arts professionals with the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project and Routledge. She is a Trace Layer Play research collective member with multiple gallery exhibitions and published in The Sun magazine. She keeps busy with home improvement projects, promoting sustainability, and bird watching.
