Biography
Rob Robbins is a painter whose work explores landscape as a site of perception, memory, and ecological entanglement. Working from direct observation, drawing, photography, and repeated encounters with particular places, he constructs large-scale paintings in which multiple viewpoints and moments in time coexist. His work examines how landscapes are experienced, remembered, recorded, and reconstructed.
Robbins received his MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale University School of Art and his BFA in Fine Arts, cum laude, from the Columbus College of Art & Design. He is a two-time MacDowell Fellow and has received three Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowships as well as a Greater Columbus Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship. He has also been an Artist-in-Residence at Indiana Dunes National Park and Château de Rochefort-en-Terre in Brittany, France.
Recent exhibitions include ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Between Fields and What Isn’t (A Decade Inside No Place) at Beeler Gallery/No Place Gallery; and his solo exhibition Double Back Around at No Place Gallery in Columbus. Forthcoming solo exhibitions will be presented at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Holden Forests & Gardens, and Covenant College in 2027. His work has also been exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, Springfield Museum of Art, Florida State University Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland State University, and galleries in New York, Chicago, and France.
Robbins is Professor of Studio Art at Miami University. In addition to his studio practice and teaching, he is active nationally with the National Association of Schools of Art and Design as a site visitor and consultant, following two terms of service on the NASAD Commission.
