Research Bio
Dr. Kumar Singh joined Miami University (MU) in 2006 and is Chair and Professor of the MME Department. Previously, he was Associate Dean/Director for Graduate Programs and Research in the College of Engineering and Computing. He holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (1997), and a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University (2003). His professional experience includes roles as a Graduate Engineer at Hindustan Aluminum (HINDALCO), visiting faculty at LSU, summer faculty fellow at AFRL-WPAFB, and visiting researcher at the University of Liverpool.
His research focuses on inverse eigenvalue problems, vibration, aeroservoelastic control, smart materials, and composite structures. He has authored/co-authored over 75 peer-reviewed publications. He is committed to expanding educational opportunities. To equip diverse groups of students with relevant skills to keep up with new technologies and market demands, he has secured funding for need-based scholarships, led a department-wide initiative of developing a smart manufacturing curriculum and Smart Factory Innovation and Technology Lab, and developed customizable learning pathways, including professional badges, micro-credentials, and workshops leading to certificates in advanced materials and manufacturing.
He has secured over $6.4 million in external funding from NSF, USDA, AFRL/DAGSI, MathWorks®, Intel, ODHE, and other sources to support research and education initiatives. He is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and recipient of the Arthur Olson Teaching Excellence Award and Outstanding Researcher Award in CEC.
