Biography
Carly Kimiecik (she/her) conducts research to advance equitable health, development, and wellbeing through community-engaged, participatory, and translatable research. With a background in social work and public health, she takes an interdisciplinary approach focusing on socio-ecological contexts, such as families, schools, and communities. Carly utilizes positive youth development (PYD) principles and collaborates with youth, families, and community-based organizations to integrate strengths-based approaches for enhancing individual and community health and wellbeing. As a sports social worker, she uses sports and sports-based PYD to promote positive change and social justice among youth and college student-athletes. She works with athletic departments and student-athletes to support their health and wellbeing and advance the role of social workers in various sports contexts. Carly draws on her experience in youth programming, community-based projects, and college athletics in her research, and also integrates a strengths-based approach within her classroom teaching and student mentorship.
