About
For the past twenty years, I have been fortunate enough to work in positions that allow me to be a Servant Leader, doing what I love- helping individuals find the career path that fits them best and helping them along that path. This has included experiences in Professional and Corporate Recruiting, Human Resources, Campus Relations, Consulting, and Talent Acquisition Management, often performing several of those roles simultaneously. This has exposed me to a wide variety of industries, people, and experiences, and has given me a circumspect perspective on Career Development. I was fortunate enough to join the Farmer School of Business in 2022, leading the Career Development Office, where I can help students by sharing my "real world" perspective with them. I am also a parent of a child who has been through the college and job search experience, and a current college sophomore, and can relate to parents who want to get their students out of the house and into fulfilling careers!
I believe in the value of data and use that to help guide the decisions and direction of the department and share that mantra with the team I lead and support, striving for continuous improvement. I encourage staff and students to be brave and confident and ask students to stretch out of their comfort zones to get what they want in their careers. This often includes networking with alumni and employers, applying for jobs and internships that they may not feel they are completely qualified for, and negotiating their salaries based on their market worth.
Though I will tell anyone that this is my favorite position I have had in my career, I strongly value my time away from campus. My wife of 20+ years and I enjoy traveling and going on spur-of-the-moment adventures, especially to take in one of our favorite bands. I try to be as much of a renaissance man as possible, and love to pursue my hobbies of writing, gardening, painting (mediocre), golfing (badly), brewing beer, and continuing to learn as much as I can.
