Center for Veteran Services
As Yellow Ribbon- and Purple Heart-designated, the Center for Veterans Services will help you navigate through your benefits paperwork and connect you with other veterans and military-affiliated students attending Miami.
About
At Miami University we are proud to be in the top 15 percent of national colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and dependents as students. Members of the military make tremendous sacrifices for our country. When you return home as veterans, it is our responsibility and privilege to help you in your transition.
The goal of the Center for Veterans Services, on Miami University’s Hamilton and Middletown campuses, is to provide support for the best possible collegiate experience for student veterans, preparing them for their post-military role in society.
Our staff will go above and beyond to ensure that your military experience translates into as much academic credit as possible. We know you've learned countless skills during your tours of service and we want to make sure that those are adequately and honorably recognized.

Hear from our Veterans
Ray Fitzpatrick
Marine Corps
After serving 17 years and being deployed to three tours in the United States Marine Corps, 40-year old sophomore nursing major Ray Fitzpatrick traded in his military garb for nursing scrubs to help administer over 1,300 COVID-19 vaccines.
Becky Ortman
Ohio Army National Guard
Retired from the National Guard Staff Sgt Becky Ortman, '20, found people who understood her background in Miami Regionals nursing and veterans programs, leading to a career as a trauma nurse.
Kevin Beck
US Army
While visiting a local VA facility Kevin Beck, Army veteran and Miami alum, learned about the length of time veterans had to wait to see a mental health professional. That set Kevin on a journey that began with earning his degrees in Psychological Science and Social Work starting on the Hamilton campus, continuing on to earn a master’s in social work in Miami’s joint program with Wright State.
Joshua Pilcher
US Navy
With the help of the GI Bill®, Cincinnati resident Joshua Pilcher is pursing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Purple Heart Institution
In October 2015, Miami University Regionals was designated a Purple Heart University by The Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Faculty and staff across academic departments, along with staff members from Admissions, Financial Aid, and OneStop, have completed Military-Friendly Training that includes a pledge to be active-military members, veteran, and veteran-family friendly. Trained faculty and staff have a thorough understanding of military terminology, the military mindset, academic and financial issues specific to veterans, benefits available to veterans, transfer of military training to college credi, and military training that aligns with specific academic programs.
Veterans Outreach Collaborative to Impact Success
The online resources available on this website are in addition to services offered by a dedicated group of individuals who comprise the Veterans Outreach Collaborative to Impact Success (VOCIS) representing the Offices of Admission and Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Learning Assistance, Counseling, Student Affairs, and the VA.
We are continually trying to improve the services we offer all our students, including the establishment of the Center for Veterans Services.
