This is a London-based signature experience for students interested in international media, journalism, public relations, and advertising.Students in the 2017 Londong Program

In this six-week workshop, you'll see such media landmarks as BBC radio, the Sky-TV campus, the National Geographic Channel, the British Film Institute, The Guardian, and the British Board on Film Classification.

You'll also learn about about press bias in the UK and why some of the most innovative radio in 1960s Britain came from the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. The workshop will be headquartered in central London at Regent's University, which is located in beautiful Regent's Park. The trendy Camden neighborhood and fashionable Oxford Street are just a few minutes' walk, as is Baker Street, the setting for the renown Sherlock Holmes mysteries. And, with several Underground stations within a block or two, all of London and the British rail network are close at hand.Inside London

In this workshop, you will be immersed in a wide variety of UK media and learn about the dimensions of its infamous (and nasty) newspaper rivalries, how a television industry dominated by public stations differs from the commercially-dominant U.S. model, the roles played by British directors and their films in the global movie industry, how the proximity of the UK to the rest of Europe influences the relative popularity of popular music acts all across the continent, and the origins of "tabloid culture" in the UK and how it spread to much of the rest of the West.

In addition, you will work as a member of a team to design an advertising/public relations campaign addressing a problem posed by a real-world client, including commercials for TV and/or cinema and print and outdoor advertising. It brings together students with interests and backgrounds in video production, journalism, public relations and film studies to do advanced study of media in the United Kingdom as well as hands-on integrated marketing communication.
