The Richard A. Ludwin Media and Communication Scholarships

Rick Ludwin (1948-2019) was a highly accomplished broadcast executive who got his start in television in our program at Miami University and eventually became vice president at NBC Television.

As an intensely loyal alum of media at Miami, Rick returned “home" every year to lecture, meet Media and Communication students, and share his wisdom. He also generously funded the Richard A. Ludwin Media and Communication Scholarships, a $10 million fund for students with financial need and a passion for media and communication.

Ludwin Scholarships range from $2,500-10,000 per year and are renewable for four years as long as students maintain good standing in the Media and Communication major and have continued financial need.

If you would like to be considered for a Ludwin Scholarship, please complete this form by May 1.

Student Media

There are many ways for Miami students to dig in to media-related activities. Check out writing opportunities with the twice-weekly Miami Student newspaper. Host your own radio program with WMSR. Plan workshops and speaker visits through the Miami chapter of Society of Professional Journalists. Compete on a national level with the Miami chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Or even manage content for the environmental news and information website, GreenHawks Media.

Our Lead Departmental Advisors

The Journalism Program schedules group advising sessions each semester, but majors also are encouraged to schedule one-on-one meetings with a Journalism faculty member for individualized attention at least one a year. Email Journalism Area Coordinator Rosemary Pennington to set up your one-on-one advising session.

The first-year Media & Communication (formerly Media & Culture) adviser is Dr. Ron Becker

The Strategic Communication advising is done by all the STC faculty. Christe McKittrick is the chief advisor for the major.

If you wish to change your advising assignment, please contact the MJF master program associate, Denise Withrow, in 120 Williams Hall. We cannot guarantee we can accommodate your request, but will make every attempt to do so.
