The Miami University Wind Ensemble is comprised of the fifty finest wind and percussion performers on campus. Utilizing the player pool concept, the ensemble performs traditional wind band literature, chamber music, and new works entering the repertoire. True to the spirit of an outstanding liberal arts university, the ensemble is open to students of all disciplines by audition each semester.

Spring 2019 Auditions

  • Woodwind and brass players wishing to perform in the Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Band or Wind Ensemble take one audition to be considered for the ensembles.
  • Online audition time signup instructions
      • Students should prepare material that show contrasting musical styles, both lyrical and technical.
      • The audition calendar signup can be found at the bottom of this page. Audition dates are November 5th, 8th, 11th, 12th and 13th. All auditions take place in PRS100
      • Wind players will audition for Professors Averbach, Humfeld and Speck, at which time they shall indicate the ensemble(s) for which they wish to be considered.
      • Please sign up for a day and time that fits your schedule. If you have not auditioned for us before, please indicate your instrument.
      • Dr. Averbach is not available on the evening of November 12, therefore students interested only in Wind Ensemble or Symphony Band should sign up on that evening
