From Hard Knocks to the Knox Award: A Journey of Reflection and Discovery

The Center for Teaching Excellence presents a Seminar by Darrel Davis, 2016 E. Philip Knox Award Winner

We all have a teaching story. When was the last time you shared yours? This seminar will offer a glimpse into my journey as a teacher and as a scholar. I will share my teaching philosophy and pedagogy, the challenges I have faced, and the lessons I have learned over the years. The session will include interactive activities that will allow you to share your experiences and reflect on your own teaching journeys. I hope that our time together will empower you to uncover a path to your own Knox Award.

Darrel R. Davis is an Associate Professor at Miami University. He received his PhD in Instructional Technology and master's degree in Computer Science from the University of South Florida. He is a former math and science high school teacher and remembers those days both fondly and with sheer terror. He has taught numerous online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and continues to explore strategies to optimize teaching and learning within each of these settings. His current research interests are engaging, but he spends too much time thinking about his classes and how to make them better. He enjoys sports and wishes he played soccer more often.
