AP Credit and Your Miami Record

What is AP Credit?

AP (Advanced Placement) credit is awarded to students who while in high school took advanced placement courses and earned an advanced placement test score high enough to qualify for college credit.

What AP credit does Miami award?

Information on the test scores and subjects for which Miami University awards credit can be found in the General Bulletin and the Guidebook for New Students.

How is AP credit applied to my record?

In late June/early July (usually around July 4) Miami receives the AP scores electronically for new incoming and transfer students if the student has designated Miami as a recipient.  The scores are loaded to the student’s academic record and appropriate credit is awarded.  Once this process is complete, the Registrar’s Office emails each student who has been awarded AP credit.  The email includes information on how the student can check his/her academic transcript or DAR in BannerWeb to view the credit awarded.

Will I be charged for credit hours resulting from AP credit?

Students are not charged tuition and fees for credit hours resulting from AP credit.

What should I do if I registered for a course for which I have been given AP credit?

In cases where the student has already registered for a course for which AP credit has been awarded, the student may adjust his/her course schedule during the open registration period. NOTE: The registration system DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY DROP registered, duplicate credit courses where AP credit has been granted. This is the student’s responsibility to handle. Students are strongly encouraged to contact their Academic Advisor for guidance.

What if I took AP courses but I don't see any AP credit on my record?

Miami University will award AP credit for a score of 3 or above for each AP exam. You can access your scores and your score-send history on the College Board website.  Be sure you requested to have your AP scores sent to Miami University. If you did not have them sent to Miami, request that they be sent. If you did have them sent, email the Transfer Credit Evaluations staff at transfercrediteval@miamioh.edu.

Who can I talk to about my AP credit?

Student questions regarding how credit has been awarded and what course should substitute for registration drops due to AP credit should be directed to the student’s Academic Advisor
