We acknowledge students’ ability to grow from their experiences and therefore seek to facilitate learning through reflective processes that uphold the values stated in Miami’s Code of Love and Honor. While doing so, we are committed to maintaining a process that promotes the respect and dignity of all members of our community and that encourages students to accept responsibility for their actions and seek to repair harm.

Resources and Forms

The Office of Community Standards believes that it is important to provide students with as much context as possible as you engage with our office. The resources found in this section are meant to provide you with additional information as you navigate the process.

Policies and Procedures

If you receive a Notice of Alleged Violation from the Office of Community Standards, we know that it can initially feel overwhelming or confusing. Additionally, if your RA or RD documented you in an incident report and you anticipate communication from our office, it might cause anxiety and stress. We want to do all we can to help you prepare for your meeting or hearing.

Title IX

Title IX is a federal law passed in 1972 which states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Miami University responds to any report of a Title IX violation. These violations include sexual misconduct, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual harassment.
