From improving cognitive abilities to enhancing social skills, esports benefit competitors’ personal development in many ways.

  • Social engagement - Learn the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork while cultivating better discipline and higher self-esteem.
  • Cognitive improvements - Improve memory, focus, and attention while learning problem-solving skills and enhancing creativity.
  • Develop motor skills - Exercise fine motor skills and develop better hand-eye coordination and gaming performance.

Do I need to personally own the games that I want to play in the Esports Arena?

The Miami Recreational Sports Center provides a handful of licenses for some titles in order for users to play without needing to own the game personally.

  • Fortnite
  • Valorant
  • Counter strike
  • League Of Legends
  • Apex Legends
  • Call of Duty War Zone
  • Dota 2
  • StarCraft II
  • Underlords

For most competitive games, players usually prefer to use their own accounts in order to maintain their rankings and stat-tracking, so we will provide a small number of licenses for players who want to play on a more casual basis. Each computer in the Esports Arena will be installed with software called GGLeap that makes it easy for users to log into whatever accounts they have (Steam, Battle.net, etc) in order to play the games they own.

Can I install games that I own on the computers?

No! At the Miami University Esports Lounge, we ask that you do not install other games that are either not installed or not-approved! Installing or playing games that are not on the list of approved games is a violation of the policies within the Lounge.

How much does it cost?

The Esports Lounge is free for student drop in recreation during our normal hours. If you or your club would like to reserve space for practices or events, it is available for rentals.
