Open Positions

Geography:  Postdoctoral Fellow to support the NASA FIREX-AQ program for an appointment from January through July 2019. Based on satisfactory performance, a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Geography may be available for the 2019-20 academic year.

Additional research will include using satellite-, geospatial-, and field-based methods to map fire activity and associated vegetative fuels throughout the contiguous U.S., with a focus on small fires and prescribed fires in the Southeast U.S. and Great Plains. Travel will be required for field campaign support and conference attendance within the U.S. but majority of work based in Oxford, Ohio.

Require:  Ph.D. in Geography, Spatial Ecology, Environmental Science, Geoscience, Forestry and Natural Resources, Sustainability, or other related geospatial fields by date of appointment. Advanced skills in GIS and remote sensing, including coding for R, QGIS, Google Earth Engine and knowledge of commercial geospatial products like ESRI and ENVI. Knowledge of land-cover/land-use products for the contiguous U.S.

Position not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Desire:  Background in wildland and prescribed fire science as well as knowledge of NASA Earth Observation sensors and field campaigns. Field experience in vegetation condition and/or fuel loadings for wildland, agricultural, and prescribed fires. Experience or interest in learning about biomass burning emissions from wildland and prescribed fires. Interest in learning about agricultural and agroforestry fire practices.
