Connections
Students studying Journalism, Media & Culture, Strategic Communication, Film Studies or Comparative Media Studies – or those who just want to stay abreast of news from the Department of Media, Journalism & Film – are encouraged to get engaged in the following ways.
Watch the MJF listservs
Listservs provide a steady stream of information about internships, scholarships, guests, new classes, and more, of particular interest to MJF students. Students are automatically added to the listservs once they have completed the paperwork to declare an MJF major. Majors, faculty, and staff not currently receiving news via an MJF listserv should contact Brook Adams at the MJF office.
Follow MJF on social media
Like the listservs, MJF social media pages keep students up to speed on department news:
- Department of Media, Journalism & Film on Facebook
- Miami University (OH) Journalism on Facebook
- Miami University (OH) Film Studies on Facebook
- MJF on Twitter at @MJFmiamiOH
- Journalism Program on Twitter at @MiamiUJRN
- Miami University (OH) Strategic Communication on Facebook
Meet with an adviser
Each MJF major has an Area Coordinator who serves as its chief academic adviser. To set up an advising appointment, contact:
- Dr. Ron Becker, Media & Culture
- Dr. Mack Hagood, Comparative Media Studies
- Dr. Hongmei Li, Strategic Communication
- Prof. Patricia Gallagher Newberry, Journalism
- Dr. Kerry Hegarty, Film Studies
For more information, visit our academic advising page.
Consider a media internship
Several MJF programs assist students in securing on- and off-campus media-related internships:
- JRN majors should work with Prof. Joe Sampson
- MAC majors should work with Dr. Matt Crain
- STC majors should work with Dr. Jon Rutter
For more information, visit our internships page.
Consider joining a student organization or working for campus media
There are many ways for Miami students to dig in to media-related activities. For more information, visit our student media page.
