It annually recognizes three 25-35 year-old painters across the nation with a third-place of $2,000, a second-place of $2,500, and finally, the $10,000 Yeck Purchase.

Miami announced the winners at the reception and award ceremony on Friday, February 10 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
This year’s juror was John Yau, a renowned art critic and poet, who met with graduate art students and guest-lecture for Miami’s Contemporary Art Forum Course in the Art Building room 100 at 5:50 p.m.
Meena Hasan, an MFA from Yale University, took home theYeck Purchase Award in 2022 and discussed and critiqued graduate students’ art at 1:15 p.m. in Richard and Carole Cocks’ Art Museum on February 9. Her solo work, “Acanthus Tipu,” is exhibited in the Hiestand Galleries through March 3, 2023.
The Miami University Young Painters Competition began with a gift from Daytonians William Yeck, Miami class of 1936, and his wife, Dorothy. Their donation provides Miami and the greater community to better understand contemporary art.
The Young Painters exhibition runs through March 10 in the Hiestand Galleries.
