Taiwanese guest lecturers share technique and knowledge in dance class
On August 29, the students in director of dance Ashley Goos’ Choreography and Dance as Culture classes learned traditional Chinese movement from visiting Taiwanese dancers.
The dancers also taught Goos’ students about their cultural heritage and their experience with dance in their native country. When sharing their movement experience, they usually related it back to an element of nature.
The guests, who also instructed at three other local schools, came with the help of Emeritus Professor of Theatre Howard Blanning, with support from the Theatre Department.
“It was a unique, exciting, and wonderful way to start the semester.” Goos said.
One of Goos’ students, Hannah Brazus, felt a positive impact from the lesson.
“I really enjoyed utilizing my skill and technique under a different context, especially within a style of dance that is so beautiful and has such a rich history,” Brazus said. “It was an amazing and unique opportunity to grow as both a dancer and a person.”
