Students in the Miami Counselor Education Program will be assigned an advisor who is a core faculty member. Contact should be maintained with the advisor to ensure smooth progression through the program. Students will meet with their advisor virtually at least once per semester, in the Fall and Spring of each academic year. The advisor will help students complete a Program of Study, process paperwork, and explore career options. Advisors will review students’ degree audits to ensure they have met the requirements for degree completion. Included in this section, students will find helpful information related to the advising process.
Students will engage in virtual advising through the university-approved online meeting platform. They will communicate with their advisor to schedule online advising appointments.
Students located on or near Miami University’s campus are welcome to meet with their advisor in-person on campus. Students will communicate with their program advisor to schedule a meeting. All students will have access to in-person advising during the Pre-Practicum Experience.
All students will be assigned to an advisor who is a core faculty member in the Counselor Education Program. If a situation arises where students want to change advisors, they should email the program director, Dr. Jenna Alvarez. The program director will then determine if a change of advisors is appropriate. In the case where a faculty member transitions to a different role or institution, the program will work to transition the advisor’s students to another core faculty member.
