Monday Classes

One-Term Presidents

This class will take a look at twelve presidents who were elected and then did not serve a second term. We will look into issues, events, economic problems, and voter popularity that may have led to their serving only one term. We will look at what they were able to accomplish in one term and compare it to those serving two terms. The results may be surprising.

Instructor: Walter Westrich, a retired school administrator and teacher, is a student of American political history and has taught previous ILR classes on presidents, vice presidents, the Civil War, and presidential elections.

5 Mondays: October 7–November 11; 10:00–11:00am

Location: Fairfield Community Arts Center, Community Room C

NOTE: Class does not meet on October 14

Wednesday Classes

Writing Workshop

This is a class for writers to share and critique one another’s writing projects. The works will include but not be limited to fiction, family histories, poetry, therapy writing, plays, retrospectives, and any writing the participants choose. Those who have been a part of previous writing classes know how valuable the views of their fellow writers can be.

Instructor: Bridget Ossmann is a playwright, humorist, and musician. She has written hundreds of plays, including Teachers Left Behind and Purple Paint (Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative winners) and Words in the Air (an Orchard Award winner). She is the founder of Naked Plays (provides playwrights and actors a venue to improve their writing and acting skills) and The Virginia Budge Award Fund for the Creative and Performing Arts (serving the students of Butler County for nine years).

5 Wednesdays: October 9–November 6; 10:30am–12:00pm

Location: Fairfield Community Arts Center, Community Room C

NOTE: October 23 class moves to Classroom down the hall
