The Institute for Learning in Retirement

The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) is a vibrant and intellectually stimulating educational program designed for lifelong learners. Established with a commitment to providing engaging educational experiences for retirees, ILR offers a diverse range of courses, lectures, and special events that cater to the unique interests and passions of its members.

Fall Registration NOW OPEN!

This fall (Oct. 6 through Nov. 7), we are excited to invite you to join us for a semester brimming with enriching in-person, virtual, and hybrid courses, as well as educational tours and fun social activities!
Don't delay; registration closes on Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m.

All courses are scheduled in local (Ohio) time, which currently follows Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
Note that EDT ends on Nov. 2, 2025.

How to Register

Have you selected all your favorite classes for the upcoming semester? If so, you are ready to register! Registration can be completed online or by mail.

Register Online

Register online here. You must submit the required emergency medical form separately once per academic year (fall-spring). Emergency medical forms must be signed by hand before being returned to ILR. All participants, both in-person and online, must complete this form per Miami University policy. Please note:

  • Online registration payment is by credit card only.
  • All students must be registered. Sharing a membership is prohibited.
  • You have the option to include additional registrants in your online registration and make a single payment.

Return the emergency medical form to ILR via:

Register by Mail

Complete the 2-page registration form found here or on pages 31-34 of the ILR Fall 2025 Course Catalog. You must complete the required emergency medical form separately once per academic year (fall-spring). Emergency medical forms must be signed by hand before being returned to ILR. All participants, both in-person and online, must complete this form per Miami University policy. Please note:

  • Mail-in registration payment is by check only.
  • All students must be registered. Sharing a membership is prohibited.
  • Each student’s registration must be on a separate form. The catalog contains two forms.
  • Make checks payable to Miami University.

The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR)

The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) at Miami University provides opportunities to explore, develop, and share knowledge and skills in a wide variety of topics. Courses taught by volunteer instructors, complemented by a variety of special events, enable participants to broaden their horizons and engage with other lifelong learners.
