The Howe Writing Center employs a team of graduate and undergraduate consultants. Our team comes from all across disciplines at Miami. If you're looking to schedule an appointment with a consultant from a particular area of study, take note of each consultant's academic discipline in bold italics.
Graduate Writing Consultants
Eleanoris a first year Master's student in integrated English language arts education to become a high school English teacher. She graduated from Miami with majors in English literature and creative writing. In her free time she likes to hike, knit or crochet, and obsess over various TV shows.
Emily is a second-year PhD student in the English Literature program. She primarily studies the long nineteenth-century, focusing on gender, materiality, and public/private spaces.
Undergraduate Writing Consultants
Abby(she/her) is a junior Human Capital Management and Leadership major.She is an active member of the service fraternity on campus, Alpha Phi Omega. She enjoys reading YA/adult fiction in her free time. After college, she would like to work in HR for Disney.
Alyssa(she/her) is a juniorIntegrated ELA Education major with a minor in Photography and is working on a TESOL endorsement.She is the president of Wish Upon a Star, and is also involved in NCTE and Sigma Tau Delta. In her free time, Alyssa loves hiking, running, watching New Girl, and reading!
Brooklynn (she/they) is a junior double-majoring in Creative Writing and Media and Communication. After school hours, she loves drawing, reading and writing fiction, and analyzing movies she's watched. Brook is an aspiring author of fantasy and science fiction.
Cassell (she/her) is a sophomore honors college student, double-majoring in Creative Writing and Psychology with a minor in Rhetoric/Writing. She’s involved in the Honors Student Advisory Board, Stage Left, and Happy Captive Magazine. She enjoys writing fiction and poetry. After graduating, she hopes to become an editor and publish books.
Charlotte (she/her) is a second-yearEnglish literature and Philosophy studentwith a French minor. Outside of class, she is the treasurer for the English Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta, and is a Scholar Leader. In her free time, Charlotte likes to read essays, bake macarons, and hike new trails.
Felix (he/him they/them) is a second-year in Data Analytics with a concentration in Bioinformatics, as well as a minor in computer science. He is a member of Botanical Society club, Visual Arts club, and Rock Climbing club. Outside of school (and his clubs) Felix enjoys spending his free time reading novels, manga, and manhwas.
Isaiah (They/Them) is a Theatre and Creative Writing double major. Outside of class, they enjoy writing plays, as well reading fantasy and magical realism. Isaiah also participates in several clubs, including Walking Theatre Project as well as being on the editorial staff of Inklings.
J is a freshman pursuing a political science and history double major with a classics minor from southwest Ohio. She enjoys writing short stories and reading historical non-fiction. Once she graduates, J hopes to continue her education in law school.
KatieB. (they/she) is a third-yearEmerging Tech in Business and Design (ETBD) and Professional Writing double major with a minor in Creative Writing. They are an avid reader of sci-fi and fantasy novels or webcomics, enjoys listening to audiobooks and audio dramas, and loves writing screenplays, poetry, and short stories in her freetime.
KatieD. (she/her) is a junior Biology and Psychology double major and a molecular biology minor. In her free time she enjoys reading romance novels, dancing, spending time with her friends and family as well as her dog, Finn. She also spends her time in Dr. Castillo's lab researching the genetical components of reproductive behavior for fruit flies. After graduation she plans to attend graduate school for a MS in genetic counseling.
Kelsie is a sophomore Honors Speech Pathology & Audiologymajor with a Spanish minor. She is an active member of the Miami community, belonging to HSAB, Striders Running Club, and Alpha Delta Pi sorority. In her free time, she loves to run, read, and cook.
Kendyl (she/her) is a junior with triple majors in Psychology and Education Studies and Professional Writing. She is also involved with HSAB and the Presidential Fellows Project on campus. In her free time, Kendyl is an avid reader of realistic fiction novels and writer of poetry. She plans to attend graduate school to pursue a masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Kerigan (she/her) is a second-year double-majoring in Professional Writing and History with a minor in American Studies. She is in the HASS Scholars Program, participates in Cru, and is a member of the Miami Mock Trial team. She loves reading and writing about history, and writes the history column for a kids’ music magazine. Once she graduates, Kerigan hopes to attend law school and write for a legal journal.
Marissa (she/they) is a sophomoreComputer Science major with a minor in statistical methods and rhetoric/writing. She is a reader for Miami’s Happy Captive Magazine and loves to read fiction books in her free time. They hope to work as a Data Scientist when they graduate and would love to consult some research papers!
Nick (he/him) is a sophomore majoring in Computer Science.Nick loves to write in many forms including creative writing, research papers, argumentative writing, and speech writing. Nick’s interests include filmmaking, editing, playing games, and walking. Post graduation, he hopes to work on developing games or apps.
