Top IT Initiatives

IT Services is focused on several critical initiatives. As a University partner underpinning the continued success of Miami programs and goals, we understand our role in helping push the University forward.

This list represents the big-picture projects where we are focusing our efforts:

Identity and Access Management (IAM)

Your Miami digital identity provides access and security, so updating our identity and access management (IAM) systems is a high priority. The IAM program's goal is to bring Miami systems together and help us consolidate access to those systems.

Accessible Technology

The AccessMU Center continues collaborating with local, state, and national IHEs as well as community partners on strategy and processes to provide more inclusive and accessible technology for everyone.

Securing Miami for the Future

We all have a shared responsibility to help keep University data (student, research, administrative, and otherwise) safe. In service of that shared responsibility, IT Services is here to lend a hand with the implementation of CrowdStrike Falcon. CrowdStrike is a new EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) tool helping us to ensure all Miamians and their information remain safe and secure.

Google Workspace Storage Changes

In response to restrictions from Google, Miami is currently rethinking how we use storage within our domain. Particularly: We must be conscientious of the amount of storage we use, due to substantial costs and limitations placed on us by Google.

There will be quotas on the amount of storage available to users within the Miami domain. The good news is: Very few people (less than one percent) will be impacted by the new storage limitations, and these folks will be contacted individually.

We will have help for you in the form of guides for how to remove your personal data from the Miami domain (if necessary) and a Frequently Asked Questions page. Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding as we work to strengthen our data stewardship and improve our technological environment.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

Miami will soon replace its current legacy Banner system with Workday, a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Deployment of the Workday system will begin in July 2024 with the human resource and finance divisions, followed by a phased student implementation in 2026.

Each of these projects will be updated as we continue to make progress with our goals. Thanks for coming along with us!
