President's Report

For more than 60 years, the Equestrian Center has greeted visitors to Miami University on State Route 73. Now, those visitors see a center that has a new, unique learning environment for students with an impact that reaches beyond the university and into surrounding communities.

Miamians gathered Aug. 22 to dedicate the Equestrian Center’s new indoor facility. Miami University President Greg Crawford and equestrian team president Catherine Wasylyshyn ’22 were on hand for the ribbon cutting, followed by an open house that included tours, equestrian team demonstrations and more.

“The dedication was well attended by students, parents, alumni, and the design and construction team,” said Heather Pinnick, director of the Equestrian Center. “It was a great event to officially signify we are open for business.”

There are 120 members who ride for Miami Equestrian each year, and nearly 1,350 have passed through the program in the last decade. Approximately 200 Sport Leadership and Management students take a class at the center each semester.

With the indoor facility, the equestrian team can now train year-round, while the arena can also be utilized for academics, team-building experiences, summer camps, events, lessons and more.

Donor gifts drove the renovations, and fundraising is ongoing for the project.

“The Equestrian Center staff is excited for what the future holds for Miami students and the community,” Pinnick said.
