Biographical Information
Obesity is a major health problem exacerbating many other disorders and is a health risk in its own right. Our research focuses on the neural and hormonal control of energy metabolism, and the mechanisms of pathological conditions of obesity and related diseases including cancer. Males and females adopt fundamentally different strategies to maintain energy balance. This is an important issue for understanding and treating obesity and related disorders, which has not received enough scientific attention. The overall research goal is to investigate effects of sex hormones in the regulation of energy metabolism. Graduate and undergraduate students in my laboratory use physiological, biochemical, and molecular techniques in their projects.
