Office of Community Engagement and Service

The Miami University Middletown Office of Community Engagement & Service (CES) uses Service-Learning and Volunteerism as a means to engage and connect our faculty, staff, and students with the community.

Our work also advances the Miami University 2020 plan foundational goals:

  • Ensure vitality and sustainability by building a forward-looking, efficient, and caring culture that stimulates, recognizes, and rewards creativity, entrepreneurial thinking, and exemplary performance.
  • Promote a diverse culture of inclusion, integrity, and collaboration that deepens understanding and embraces intercultural and global experiences.
  • Cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships and applied and service-oriented projects that strengthen our local, state, national and world communities.

Through these advancements, we support the development of our students through community action to help them expand upon and reinforce what they learn in the classroom. Additionally, we benefit our community by addressing identified needs and building sustainable relationships with our students, faculty, staff and community partners. In essence, our work promotes collaboration between campus and community.

The CES offers opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to become involved in service, whether through volunteer or community engagement projects, networking opportunities, or more in-depth Service-Learning experiences or community-based research. We host events, on and off campus, that reinforce the importance of community awareness and work toward breaking down silos and creating sustainable learning environments.

Mission Statement

To foster mutually productive partnerships between the campus and surrounding communities that enhance the University curriculum’s emphasis on Service-Learning and community engagement, ensure the intellectual and economic health of both the campus and the surrounding communities, and generate an environment where critical thinking, creative ability, professional skills, diversity, and responsible citizenship are valued and developed.

Vision Statement

Engaging the Community. Empowering Future Leaders. Enriching Lives.
