General Questions

I have to leave early / arrive late to SOAR. Can I still get my schedule at SOAR?

Plan to stay at SOAR for the duration of the program. The program is intentionally designed as a linear program that helps students get acquainted with the university and make informed decisions on their schedule. If you arrive more than 15 minutes past the welcome session starting, you may be asked to reschedule for a future date.

I need to reschedule my SOAR date. How do I do that?

You can reschedule SOAR by logging in to myMiami and going back into the checklist to schedule a new date. You could also call to reschedule at 513-785-3053.

First-Time New Students

Do I have to attend SOAR?

Yes, SOAR is strongly suggested for all new students in order to schedule classes for the upcoming semester. There are multiple dates to choose from throughout the summer. All new students are charged a $40 non-refundable SOAR fee on their Bursar bill.

I attended a Miami regional campus as a Post-Secondary Enrollment Option/College Credit Plus student. Do I have to attend SOAR?

Yes, SOAR is required for all new students, regardless of previous PSEO/CCP experience. Much of the information that is provided at a general SOAR session is different than PSEO/CCP SOAR sessions due to various factors. You will have a hold on your account that prevents you from scheduling classes until you attend SOAR.

Should I bring my parents with me to SOAR?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any guests of students at this time. We will be offering an optional family orientation on each campus later in the summer. In the mean time, please check out our Parents and Families Orientation page!

I am completely unable to attend ANY of the SOAR programs offered on my home campus. What should I do?

Call the Regional Office of Student Activities & Orientation (ROSA) to discuss available options. (513) 785- 3053

Transfer Students

Do I have to attend Transfer Orientation?

Yes. Transfer Orientation is completed online in Canvas and is required for all transfer students. You will receive a link to enroll in the online orientation when you register via myMiami. All transfer students are charged a $40 non-refundable fee on their Bursar bill. The online orientation should be completed before scheduling classes, while you are waiting for your transcripts to be evaluated.

I am uncomfortable with an online Transfer Orientation. What should I do?

If you are uncomfortable with an online orientation, you are welcome to attend a general SOAR program instead. Call the Regional Office of Student Activities & Orientation (ROSA) at 513-785-3053 to register for a regular SOAR date. You will only be charged a $40 non-refundable fee on your Bursar bill once.

How do transfer students schedule classes?

Once you've completed the online orientation, you'll be directed to complete a form to alert Academic Advising. Once they've received this form and your transcripts have been evaluated, you'll be contacted to schedule an advising appointment.
