COVID-19 Updates: Miami's response to the coronavirus pandemic and CDC's coronavirus health and safety guidelines.
This federally-funded TRIO program helps high school students overcome social, academic, and cultural barriers to higher education. First, we help students find academic success and graduate from high school. Second, we encourage enrollment and graduation from post-secondary education. Students participate in weekly tutoring, monthly activities, and a residential summer program. Miami University's Upward Bound Programs serve students at Hamilton High School located in Hamilton, Ohio.
Advising sessions are held once a month to identify the student's needs and goals. It also allows for us to create and enact a plan while providing encouragement, motivation, and support.
We provide our students with support to help them improve their academic performance.
Students have access to academic enrichment activities on campus after school and virtually.
Our students go on exciting cultural field trips and tour colleges and universities throughout the year. Past trips include Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Washington D.C., and several destinations across Ohio.
Our students get the opportunity to experience an ACT Bootcamp valued at thousands of dollars for FREE. We also provide our students with ACT fee waivers.
During each summer, Upward Bound offers an immersive, six-week program designed to give students a taste of "college life." Students attend courses in actual college classrooms, eat meals in the cafeteria, and are given access to other facilities on campus, such as the library and recreational facilities. Students are placed in summer classes based on which classes they will be taking in the ensuing school year, as well as their performance during the preceding academic year. The summer program also aims to cultivate professional aspirations within students through career exploration, community service, and personal development.
Students are treated to a wide variety of cultural activities and recreational programs to keep them active and motivated.
Some of the highlights of past summers include:
This program, held during the six-week summer program, helps graduated seniors transition to college.
Students who show evidence of satisfying participation in program activities receive monthly stipends of $40 a month during the academic year and $60 a month during the summer.
Graduated seniors are able to take up to two college courses for free.
Students receive assistance in college selection, admissions information, applying for financial aid and ACT Prep, including ACT fee waivers.
Our students get the opportunity to experience an ACT Bootcamp valued at thousands of dollars for FREE. We also provide our students with ACT fee waivers.
Students will have opportunities to attend institutional, state and regional conferences on leadership skills and to participate in civic engagement and community service events and activities.
