Transfer Student Orientation

Register for Orientation

The Transfer Orientation Process

Orientation for all new transfer students entering for the fall 2023 term includes the following components, which must be completed in order:

Step 1: Register for Orientation

In order to register for orientation, you must confirm your admission via the applicant status page and enroll in Duo two-factor authentication.

Within 48 hours after confirming your admission, you can register for orientation using the orientation registration system. The registration process should take you less than 5 minutes. We’ll ask you to confirm your major, self-report the transfer credit’re expecting, and request accommodations for any disabilities during the online orientation process.

When you complete your registration, students will receive a confirmation email to your Miami University email address, and registered guests will also receive a confirmation email.

Please note:

  • Orientation programs fill up on a first-come, first-served basis, and do not have waiting lists, so new students should register early and be as flexible as possible with their availability.

Step 2: Complete Part 1 of the Orientation Canvas Course

After registering for an orientation session (and after December 8, 2023), you will receive an invitation to join the orientation Canvas modules (on the next business day). Each module in the course will include important information about your academic and social transition to Miami.

Completing part 1 of the orientation Canvas modules is required prior to attending your orientation program date and is required prior to academic advising and registration. The information you receive in Canvas will be specific to your academic college, so if you are considering changing your major, let us know using the orientation registration system so you’ll see the correct academic information.

You are required to complete part 1 of the orientation Canvas modules at least 5 days before your scheduled orientation session. The orientation Canvas course includes important material about academic and student life, and will be referenced during your on-campus orientation session.

Step 3: Attend Your Online Orientation Program

The Orientation and Transition Programs team is eager to welcome you to the Miami community. During your required orientation session, you will learn about campus resources, meet other new transfer students, think about academic and student life at Miami, and review the new transfer student checklist. Plan to attend the entirety of the 1-hour online session in order to be eligible for academic advising and registration.

Orientation programs are scheduled for he following dates and times:

  • December 11
  • December 14
  • January 8
  • January 17
  • January 22

Step 4: Select and Attend an Individual Academic Advising and Registration Appointment

Within one business day of completing your online orientation session and completing the orientation Canvas course, you will receive an invitation to select an academic advising and registration appointment. During your academic advising appointment, you will discuss your academic plan for your first semester at Miami and register for fall semester courses. Please ensure that your most recent academic transcripts have been sent to Miami University well ahead of your academic advising and registration appointment.

Step 5: Complete Part 2 of the Orientation Canvas Course

After orientation, part 2 of the orientation Canvas modules will become available and is due by January 25, 2023. Information about student services, campus life, transitioning to college, Miami traditions, and next steps is included in the remaining Canvas course modules. Part 2 of the orientation Canvas modules will also include your links to the Alcohol Edu, Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion required online trainings.

Step 5: Attend Transition Events

A series of events will be available for you and upon arrival to campus. We'll be in touch with details!
