Social Justice Scholars

Miami student works with children abroad

In this program, students explore important questions regarding fairness, ethical decision-making, resource distribution, and global citizenship. It teaches students the fundamental skills that they will need in order to become agents of change in the communities where they live and work. Social Justice Scholars have the opportunity to:

  • Interact with nationally renowned faculty and practitioners in Sociology and Social Justice Studies to gain insight on the topics that shape our world.
  • Work closely with leaders at the heart of Miami’s Office of Community Engagement or partner with the university’s Social Action Center to affect meaningful change in the local and global communities with which Miami is so powerfully connected.
  • Receive career mentoring that specifically addresses the issues faced by social justice and human rights professionals.
  • Network with leaders from community organizations that advocate social concerns of national importance.

To be considered for the Social Justice Scholars Program, you must select a major in the College of Arts and Science and select one of the following Professional/Academic Areas of Interest on the Common Application: Area, Ethnic, Cultural, and Gender Studies; Community Engagement/Activism; Criminology; or Social Justice.
