Click to learn more.Our doctoral program encourages you to integrate knowledge and research methods from a range of behavioral and social sciences in your study of social gerontology. Our program–the first in the state of Ohio, and among the first in the nation–builds scholars and educators who can meet the challenges, demands, and opportunities presented by global aging. As a graduate of the doctoral program, you will be prepared to teach and conduct research in institutions of higher education, and hold positions in policy or service organizations.

Our Program:


  • Funds accepted full-time students on assistantships, which include tuition waivers and stipends
  • Is offered by the Department of Sociology & Gerontology and enhanced by the Scripps Gerontology Center, an Ohio Center of Excellence that involves students in a wide range of externally-funded research projects
  • Creates an intellectual environment by encouraging critical thinking and engaged learning

  • Provides training in both quantitative and qualitative methods
