Risk Control

Mission and Vision

Risk Management aspires to be an efficient, impactful, and transparent operation within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Services.  The goal is to be a valued partner and resource to provide the campus community with high quality service and cost effective tools to appropriately balance risk and opportunity.  Through facilitated partnerships, Risk Management will identify and evaluate risk and develop ways to mitigate that risk through best practices and finances risk.

The focus of risk control is on finding and implementing solutions to prevent or reduce harm.  Training is a key way to reduce the risks to the University's faculty, staff and students.  Miami University has developed the following programs to reaffirm and communicate senior management's support for the mitigation of risks on campus.  The programs are meant to establish expected levels of performance and cooperation from the University.

Fireworks and Other Pyrotechnic Displays on University Property

Miami University has developed a fireworks and other pyrotechnic displays requirements to provide information and establish general precautions for Miami University personnel who are considering a fireworks display or use of other pyrotechnic special effects on University property.

Golf Cart and Utility Vehicles

Golf carts and utility vehicles UTVs) are traditionally used to traverse campus common areas quickly and quietly.  These vehicles are used for both transportation services as well as for utility purposes and are of significant value to the University for efficient and economic transportation.  Recognizing that these are moving vehicles, Miami University has established requirements for their safe operation.

Accidents involving golf carts are reported every year. Because Miami University has a genuine interest in preventing accidents and providing a safe campus environment, supervisors and employees are required to abide by the golf cart and gator safety measures.

Training documentation may be audited periodically by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Services and must be made available to the office following the reporting of an accident involving a low power or utility vehicle.
