Admissions and Program Overview

As you prepare to launch your career our MSBA courses in data management, machine learning, and predictive analytics will prepare you for success, our straightforward admission process is the first step in achieving your personal and professional goals. Complete applications will be reviewed as they are received. Students will receive an admission decision 2-4 weeks following the submission of their application.

Application Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Undergraduate transcript
  • Resume/CV
  • Personal statement about your interest in the program.
  • One (1) letter of recommendation (waived if completed Miami PRIME and/or Farmer School of Business undergraduate major or minor)
  • Little to no work experience required
  • GRE and GMAT scores are optional

Prerequisites

The MSBA program is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in any field from an accredited four-year university. In order to complete the MSBA degree in the 9-month timeframe, students will need the following common body of knowledge in analytics:

  • A college-level course in introductory statistics
  • A college-level course (full semester) in regression analysis
  • A college-level mathematics in pre-calculus, matrix algebra, and calculus concepts
  • A college-level course that includes Structured Query Language and Programming (any language)

Applicants must have earned a minimum grade of C in each prerequisite course and a 3.0 grade point average or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all of them. Prerequisite courses must be satisfied through credit-bearing courses at the college level.  Online courses and workshops that do not provide academic credit may not be used to satisfy the prerequistes for the MSBA. 

Students who do not have the necessary prerequisites can take the required courses online in the summer term before entering the MSBA program through the Undergraduate Certificate in Foundations of Business Analytics. Students may take as many of these courses as necessary to complete the common body of knowledge in analytics. Regular tuition rates will apply to any additional prerequisite courses taken.

International Students

International students are welcome to apply. The MSBA program is STEM and OPT certified, allowing international students to extend their training in the United States by 24 months after graduation.

The STEM and OPT certifications can allow students to work for three years in the U.S. while working with companies to obtain a work visa.

To ensure the highest quality learning experience, all international students must provide proof of English proficiency by earning a minimum passing score on one of the below English language tests to be considered for regular admission:

  • TOEFL iBT ≥ 80
  • IELTS ≥ 6.5
  • PTE ≥ 54
  • Duolingo ≥ 110

Analytics Graduate Certificate

The Analytics Graduate Certificate builds on the foundations that are established in the Foundations of Business Analytics undergraduate certificate or similar coursework. Students will become more versed in data-driven decision-making with additional data manipulation and retrieval knowledge in both structured and unstructured data as well as hands-on knowledge of predictive modeling tools and techniques. The program also has a focus on communicating and storytelling with data. Once this is complete, a student is eligible to pursue the Advanced Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics.

Upon completion of the first semester of courses (12 hours, 4 courses), students will receive a Graduate Certificate in Analytics.


Advanced Business Analytics Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Business Analytics builds upon the Graduate Certificate in Analytics and is an immersive four-course sequence into leading methods and technologies in applied analytics. Students will develop skills in machine learning applications in organizational settings, the forefronts of prescriptive methodologies, and applications of artificial intelligence. Students will also engage with practitioners about how analytic solutions are deployed and put into practice in organizations.

Upon completion of the second semester of courses, excluding the Business Analytics Practicum, students will receive a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Business Analytics.

3+1 Combined Program

Miami students wishing to complete both a bachelor's and master's degree in 4 years must also complete the Graduate School online application (be sure to check "combined program").
