Tech Fee applications for 2020/21 Schedule to Open August 17

A pool of funds from the Student Technology Fee has been created to stimulate the development of innovative student-focused technology projects on the Oxford campus. The Student Technology Fee funds programs and services that support students in achieving their academic program goals and enhance their life at Miami.

Any student, faculty member, staff member, group or department on the Oxford campus may submit a proposal. Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the approved tech fee guidelines for expenditures (below).

The funds are divided into three pools, as follows:

  • Ongoing Student Services: Provides funds to keep technology in classrooms up to date, fund positions dedicated to student support, pay wages for IT Services student staff, and provide maintenance for software in support of student services.
  • Dean's Allocations: This portion is allocated to the School, the Colleges, and the Libraries for each dean to respond to student technology needs in their division.
  • Competitive Proposal Process: Provides funds for the innovative student-focused technology projects submitted by students, faculty, or staff. Note: The updated guidelines for FY21 are now available.

Divisional Allocations

The $575,000 total in divisional funds are allocated as follows:

  • Arts and Science (CAS): $169,976
  • Business (FSB): $95,592
  • Education (CEHS): $69,017
  • Engineering (CEC): $57,953
  • Creative Arts (CCA): $42,070
  • Library (LIB): $86,925
  • Student Affairs (SAF): $53,467

The FY21 Divisional Allocations will be available later this fall, once the 2020/21 enrollment totals have been calculated.

  • August 17, 2020: Announce Call for Proposals
  • August 17, 2020: Call for Reviewers sent to Divisional Contacts
  • Week of August 31, 2020: Open Informational Meeting (time & place TBD)
  • September 20, 2020, at midnight: Proposals Due to Deans/VP
  • September 21 - 28, 2020: Divisions review proposals
    • Fund by division
    • Advance to the competitive process
  • September 28, 2020: Reviewer’s names due from divisions
  • September 28 - October 2, 2020: Finalize Info for Review Session
  • October 3 and/or 10, 2020: Reviewers meet to discuss and score proposals
  • October 12 - 16, 2020: ITPC Sub Committee meets to summarize scores and advance list for approval
  • October 19 - 23, 2020: IT Reviews - Technical, Security & Accessibility
  • October 26 - 30, 2020: ITPC Confirmed Recommendations
  • November 1, 2020: Spending Plans Due from Deans
  • Week of November 2, 2020: Applicants/Div. Point Contacts Notified of Funding Decisions
  • Week of November 9, 2020: Approved Funding Released to Divisional Accounts (competitive and divisional)
  • August 1, 2020: Final Reports Due for FY20 Divisional Allocations and Competitive Awards
  • August 1, 2021: Final Reports Due for FY21 Divisional Allocations and Competitive Awards
