Welcome to Miami University’s campus climate survey for current students, faculty and staff. Viewfinder® Campus Climate Surveys have been developed by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and most widely respected diversity and inclusion publication in higher education today.

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) invites you to participate in the 2022-2023 campus climate survey. The purpose of this survey is to more fully understand the perceptions and experiences of students, faculty and staff, evaluate progress on climate issues, and identify next steps for Miami. Viewfinder® is designed to measure the extent to which diversity and inclusion play an integral role on our campuses.

We strongly encourage all faculty, staff, and current students to participate in the survey.

We are also offering the following incentives to encourage YOUR participation - all current students, faculty, and staff are eligible!  After completing the survey, you will be directed to another webpage to be entered into the weekly incentive program.  Winners will receive an email notification with details on where to pick up their prize.

Participants that complete the survey during the first two weeks will remain in the drawings for subsequent weeks if they are not selected as a winner. The sooner you complete the survey, the more chances you’ll have to win a prize!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a climate survey?

Miami University will administer a university-wide climate survey to all students, staff, faculty and administrators from January 25-March 1, 2023. This provides an important opportunity for all Miamians to share their voices and experiences as we assess our progress and identify next steps. Data from the survey will be critical in allowing us to identify and design additional initiatives, programs, and actions to continue to reflect our inclusive excellence approach.

Am I required to take this survey?

Your participation is voluntary and will have no bearing on your grades, status or employment. The purpose of this survey is to more fully understand the perceptions and experiences of students, faculty and staff, evaluate progress on climate issues, and identify next steps for Miami.

How will I take this survey?

You will receive an email from our partner Campus Climate Survey, LLC/Viewfinder®. The email received from "Viewfinder® Campus Climate Surveys" will contain a link to the survey that is unique to you.

What do I do if I haven’t received an email invitation to complete the survey?

The email is coming from our campus partner, Viewfinder®. If you have not received your email, please check your spam folder. If the email is not in your spam folder, please email the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at to report that your email has not been received.

How long will it take to complete the survey?

The survey should take between 20 and 25 minutes to complete.

Do I have to complete the survey in one sitting?

The link is unique to each individual, therefore you have the option to start the survey, stop and resume at a later time if necessary. Just make sure to complete the survey before it closes on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Is the survey confidential?

Yes! Your responses are confidential, and no personal identifying information will be collected from you. Individual data will not be reported, only aggregated data will be reported.

How does Viewfinder® ensure anonymity and confidentiality for survey respondents?

Campus Climate Surveys, LLC makes every attempt to ensure the anonymity and confidentiality of the data collected in the following ways:

  • Survey data is collected and maintained on a secure server.
  • No person except for employees of Campus Climate Surveys, LLC will have access to the online account where data is collected and stored.
  • Collected data is only shared with designated employees from your institution as well as any outside consultants contracted by an institution.
  • No identifiers are attached to individual survey responses, therefore, the only way for an individual response to not be anonymous is if someone self-identifies (i.e. may be the only person of color in a specific department).
  • Survey participants may choose to answer some or all of the questions included in the survey.
