Bargaining Summary from Meeting on November 13, 2023

Miami University and FAM continued to work toward an initial collective bargaining agreement for the Librarian unit on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023.

The Parties began the day by confirming the status of all outstanding proposals that had been exchanged in prior bargaining sessions. After this discussion, the Parties moved on to discuss new proposals and counterproposals to items that had previously been proposed.

The University proposed a few revisions to FAM’s counterproposal on the Labor Management Meetings article. FAM accepted these revisions and the Parties reached a tentative agreement.

In addition, the University introduced two new proposals: (1) Dues Deduction; and (2) Management Rights. The University also provided a counterproposal on Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment. The University rejected FAM’s proposed Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) regarding seeking an amendment to Ohio Revised Code Section 3339.01 such that three members of Faculty Assembly could be added to the Board of Trustees.

FAM introduced two new proposals: (1) Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Artificial Intelligence; and (2) Online Course Content. The University asked FAM some clarifying questions about these two new proposed articles. In addition, FAM presented a counterproposal on Dues Deduction, explaining that it intended to make the article consistent with a Dues Deduction article that will be presented on behalf of the Faculty Member bargaining unit. Further, the University asked some questions of FAM regarding their articles on Data Sharing and Shared Governance, which were presented during the parties’ previous meeting on Oct. 30, 2023.

Parties will next meet on Wednesday, Nov. 29th.
