Bargaining Summary from Meetings on Dec. 15, 2023 and Dec. 21, 2023

Labor negotiations continued with the Librarian bargaining unit on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023 to continue working toward an initial collective bargaining agreement. The University’s bargaining team and FAM’s bargaining team worked from approximately 10 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Wilks Conference Center on the University’s Hamilton Campus.

To begin, FAM introduced the following proposals: (1) Financial Exigency and Retrenchment; and (2) Librarian Promotion, Tenure, and Evaluation. It also rejected the University’s No Strike, No Lockout proposal.

The University then introduced the following counter proposals: (1) Dues Deduction; (2) Separability; and (3) Purpose.

After caucusing separately, the University presented an updated No Strike/No Lockout proposal. FAM then presented the following counterproposals: (1) Dues Deduction; (2) Purpose; and (3) Separability. After another caucus, the parties reached tentative agreement on Purpose.

The parties came together again on Friday, Dec. 21, 2023. They met at approximately 10 a.m. at the Clinical Health Sciences and Wellness Center on the University’s Oxford Campus.

During joint session, the Union introduced a counter proposal on Grievance and Arbitration.

Due to difficulties with the parties’ access to secure Wi-Fi (including the University’s counsel’s inability to receive and revise electronic copies of the Union’s proposal), the parties jointly agreed to end the session around lunchtime.
