Bargaining Summary from the Meeting on Feb. 9, 2024

Labor negotiations continued with the Librarian bargaining unit on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024 to continue working toward an initial collective bargaining agreement. The University’s bargaining team and FAM’s bargaining team worked from approximately 10 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. at the Demske Staff Development Center on the University’s Oxford Campus.

To begin, the Union presented a counterproposal on Grievance and Arbitration. It then presented the following benefits proposals: Parking and Commuting, Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Paid Parental Leave, Dual Career Hires, and Tuition Remission. The Union noted that these proposals did not constitute the entirety of its full benefits proposal. The University then presented the following proposals: Scope of Librarian Duties, Annual Evaluations, and Discipline and Discharge. It also communicated its rejection of the Union’s proposal on Financial Exigency and Retrenchment.

After caucusing separately, the parties rejoined to discuss (i) their availability for March bargaining dates; and (ii) several of the Union’s questions about the University’s aforementioned proposals.

The parties are next scheduled to meet on February 23, 2024.
