Bargaining Summary, Dec. 18, 2024
The University continued its ongoing bargaining in good faith with the Faculty Alliance of Miami Librarians (FAM-L) in December 2024. The parties were able to bargain in person on two dates, as well as shared numerous counter proposals and had additional discussions when not at the negotiating table. As a result, the parties were able to reach tentative agreement on the following seven articles:
- Scope of Librarian Duties
- Annual Evaluations
- Intellectual Property and Copyright
- Credit Bearing Courses
- Vacation
- Sick Leave
- Probationary Period
In addition, the joint working group of Library administration and FAM-L members has continued to meet outside of negotiations to discuss and create criteria tables as well as a sample timeline for promotion to assist probationary librarians in their promotional process.
Good faith negotiations on a first-time collective bargaining agreement require not only give-and-take on both sides, but also require time. The work that both the University and FAM-L have put into these negotiations has been significant, but the parties continue to make good progress toward reaching an initial contract. The parties have already agreed to two in-person bargaining sessions in January where they will keep up this work.
